Stu Larsen in the studio

A month ago I had the wonderful opportunity to have musician Stu Larsen come to the studio for a few days and sit for me.
Stu travels the world playing his music and had just come back to Australia briefly after several years touring with Passenger.
He is a very genuine fellow with a simple philosophy of travelling light though life, he has few possessions and no fixed address
and in his own words- ‘You look at me as if I’m a vagabond…. well, maybe I am’.
I’m happy to say the work I made from our time together in the studio has been selected for the
Glencore Percival Portrait Painting Prize held in the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Townsville. 9th May – 13th July 2014

This biennial prize exhibition offers a $40,000 major acquisitive prize, with the winning work entering the City of Townsville Art Collection.
This year it will be judged by the new director of the National Portrait Gallery Angus Trumble.

Recovery opens in Brisbane

Recovery was shown in Rockhampton Art Gallery in August and the opening, artist talk and full day workshop were well received.

This weekend saw the beautiful Vera Wade Gallery space in the ground floor of St Andrews Uniting Church, Cnr Ann Street and Creek Streets host to the opening of the Brisbane leg of the 2013 tour of Recovery – The Flood Objects Project.
An appreciative crowd came to enjoy the stories and paintings.

Exhibition open to the public 11 a.m – 2 p.m. Mondays to Fridays until the 15th November or by appointment. Entrance to the gallery from the Ann Street entrance.

Recovery – The Flood Objects Project goes to Gympie

The opening night of Recovery at the Gympie Regional Gallery and a Saturday still life drawing workshop with enthusiastic local artists was a great weekend of art and conversation. Thanks to Joolie Gibbs and Sandra Ross and a willing, professional team of vollies for making the exhibition look so good.

Recovery goes to Miles

Recovery – the Flood Objects Project is in Dogwood Crossing Gallery, Miles until 2nd April 2103. I enjoyed the hospitality of the friendly locals as my trip to run a workshop there was ironically extended because of rising flood waters.

Recovery – Opening night

Over 150 people attended the opening night of Recovery – The Flood Objects Project at the Ipswich Art Gallery on Friday night 11th January,  two years to the day of the Queensland floods. The exhibition runs until the 13th Feb (excluding 29th Jan-3rd Feb).

Self Portrait selection

A Self Portrait entitled Facing Myself  has been selected for the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award held at Grafton Regional Gallery. The exhibition opens on the 26th October 2012 and then tours Regional and Metropolitan galleries throughout 2013-2014. It is an investigation of myself in charcoal on paper, and how I now have to see the world, through my glasses or over them.

‘Home Sown’ group exhibition

Home Sown is the launch exhibition for Lorraine Pilgrim Studio Gallery 19th May 2- 6 p.m. at 87 Ridgeway Avenue, Southport. There will be artists talks and a Q&A panel discussion with arts professionals. I will be giving an artist talk at 4 p.m followed by art discussion and the official opening of this exciting new gallery space. Lorraine Pilgrim has over 40 years experience in private art galleries and studios and has mentored and grown the careers of many of South East Queensland’s prominent mid career and emerging artists.
