Description
What makes this sketchbook special?
It’s a limited edition. Only 100 copies will be printed, some available through the Caloundra Regional Gallery and some available through this shop.
There are a super limited amount of handmade plywood slip covers with an etched sketch on the front.
These are a faithful facsimile of two of my museum sketchbooks combined and an intimate look into the processes of both taxidermy and artmaking.
These were made over several trips to the birds and mammals collection of the Queensland Museum, complete with overheard comments that you don’t hear everyday!
I have been drawing in the museum for many years and the lure of animal objects keeps me returning.
The drawings and notes were made in the moment, from life (or death) while peering over the shoulders of the collections manager, preparators, scientists and volunteer taxidermists as they carefully and respectfully looked after our state collections.
I was drawing quickly and the results are jerky and imperfectly honest impressions.
Published by Brisbane based micro publisher Tiny Owl Workshops, this unique book is a quirky combination of art, science and curiosity.
